Taking a cruise can end up being one of the best vacations you have ever had in your life. Don't mar the vacation of a lifetime by failing to take a few safety precautions. This doesn't start once you got onboard, safety starts at home before you even walk out of the door.
Most people take cruises to international destinations, as such, passports and, visas are required. Before you leave home, take copies of all you important documentation. Leave one copy at home, preferably with a family member, and take one copy, plus the originals on your vacation.
When it comes to packing, the old saying could save you some stress and loss: if you can't afford to replace it, don't take it with you. Keep all valuables locked away safely at home. While one shouldn't expect to be the victim of crime on a cruise ship, opportunists are everywhere. If you leave valuables where someone else can steal them, expect them to be taken.
Practice the same safety precautions on your cruise that you would at home. Keep your cabin door locked and keep valuables secure. If you must take a lot of money with you, wear a money belt, or, a money pack that sits hidden beneath your clothes. If another passenger makes you feel uncomfortable, avoid them. Just because you are traveling on board the same ship does not mean you have to be friends, nor does it mean you have to trust them.
Vacations are to be enjoyed. Leave your valuables at home and take some simple safety measures so that you can enjoy yours worry free.
